NAME:
Pisces Gabriela Ola
Nicknames:
Gabby
BIRTHDAY:
February 7, 1981
AGE:
35
SPECIES:
#161 Sentret
HEIGHT:
5' (152.4cm)
WEIGHT:
136lbs (61.69kg)

NATURE:
Gentle, "good perseverance"
PERSONALITY:

Going from reckless and naive to cautious and worrisome, Gabriela sobered quickly from her high school days. She had to learn how to grow up fast, and because of that she often speaks in a way that makes her seem older than she actually is. She does not let her emotions dictate her reactions, but rather reasons things out based on what she knows and what she has experienced. Her understanding nature allows for her to place herself in the mentality of others, yet because of this it can also make her a worrisome person. She often frets over those close to her, seamlessly creating or feeling that there are problems lying beneath the surface when there may be none at all. And, because of this worrisome habit, it has made her a very guarded individual. Even though she can be friendly, it takes quite a bit for her to fully trust someone and determine for herself what type of person they are.

Gabriela hates conflict—in fact, she avoids it as best she can; she dislikes being angry with people and does not like approaching others first either, especially when concerning something major. She is the type to like the least amount of arguing as possible—the 'big' type of arguments, at least. Yet when the time calls for it, she is extremely calm and levelheaded. She does her best not to further anger the other person, which in turn can cause her to disregard her own feelings.

Cautious as she may be, she is genuinely open-minded and is not so hesitant about trying new things. This can make her adaptable when the situation calls for it—especially with activites and hobbies. Determined in her own way, if she has a goal in mind she will work hard to achieving it.

☺ calm, ☺ understanding, ☺ open-minded || ○ motherly, ○ determined, ○ mature || ☻ cautious, ☻ worrisome, ☻ non-confrontational

HOMETOWN:
Hearthome City, Sinnoh
HISTORY:
"You're bound to be big one day—just you wait!"

Born to Broadway performer Erika and musician Nicholas Ola, Pisces Gabriela grew up knowing the 'artsy' side of the world. Neither of her parents had anticipated having a child when they did (Erika being 20 and Nicholas 30), but that didn't stop them from settling down in any case to begin raising their newborn Sentret. However, parenting didn't come so smoothly; with Nicholas having to travel to faraway cities and regions for business and tours and Erika just beginning her Broadway career, Gabriela was often left to the care of nannies and her mother's manager, who became something of a second-father to her when her real father was gone. When she reached five years old, Gabriela was allowed to accompany her mother much more often to stage productions and contests, watching from backstage. It was at this tender age that Gabriela discovered she wanted to become like her mother. There was something so intriguing to her about the idea of putting words together in song and dance, and as Gabriela became older, she began to understand what that significance of dance was.

Dance told a story, and Broadway was just the finished product of that.

In her elementary school days, she pleaded with her mother to let her take an after-school ballet class. And, once enrolled, the Sentret found the dance class to be...helpful, but not exactly how she had anticipated. Sure, ballet taught her the basics: flexibility, poise, movement, dedication towards learning different steps and routines, yet it still felt as if something were lacking from the  type of dances that she witnessed in her mother's performances. To put it in short, she began to find ballet quite boring, but continued through with her classes up until she reached her freshman year of high school.

Come high school, the popular girls' poms team caught her attention; though rigorous in its routines and certainly picky with its members, Gabriela wanted to try for the team. It was as similar as she could come to achieving the energetic and fun dance of Broadway. She soon realized, however, that her dance routine was...quite antiquated, and as a result, the older members of the team waved her off, telling her to try a routine more 'urban' if she wanted to even qualify. She may have had potential, but her ballet wasn't what they were looking for. If she wanted to try again in her sophomore year then she was welcome to, but they strongly encouraged her to watch some of their pep rallies in order to understand what they really did.

Well, come the fall Gabriela was able to watch one of their dance routines at the pep rally, and surprisingly, their formal dance routine did not catch her eye. It was the Guys & Doll's team instead.  The group—apparently newer and more underrated—seemed to be the more interpretive dance team, which combined the classics of ballet and the urban hip hop that was strictly found on the poms team. It was certainly more well-rounded, and though equally as hard to get into as a freshman, Gabriela put together a dance piece for the spring auditioning.

Come her sophomore year, she was an honorary member of the G&D team.

From that point on, Gabriela made close connections with her dance crew; the team would travel to basketball games to perform alongside of the poms team, and it was during one of the away games where she met an Absol named Percy O'Donnovan, one of the students of the neighboring high schools. He had approached her after G&D's dance finished, complimenting her on her movement. The two exchanged phone numbers and hit it off really well, enough so for Percy to ask Gabriela out. At the end of her sophomore year, the two began dating.

To say they were "in love" would be a heavy exaggeration, but in high school, quite a handful of couples confused their infatuation for love. Gabriela and Percy were one such couple. Though the fact they were at neighboring schools prevented them from seeing each other as frequently as they would have like, Gabriela was certain that she was in love with Percy. So much so that she didn't think twice about having sex with him in their relationship. Naive and somewhat reckless, precautions for safe-sex practices were heavily overlooked and not as carefully focused on. With high school parties hosted during homecomings and after-games, the young students were no strangers to alcohol. And it was on one such night of tipsy sex where Gabriela left the party not quite as alone as she had been before.

A week or so into feeling sick as a dog prompted Gabriela into asking her mother to take her to the doctor, and it was there that the both of them found she was positive for pregnancy at the age of 17.

Her mother was enraged when hearing her daughter's explanation, as she too knew the repercussions of having a child so early in life without the proper and stable home to give. It was Gabriela's mother who demanded to speak with the future father and grandparents. As it turned out through discussion, they wanted absolutely nothing to do with the child and suggested that Gabriela abort it—for the sake of both she and Percy's futures. Gabriela, however, couldn't allow herself to make that decisions. Where she expected Percy to want to be there for her, instead she found panic, fear—hesitation. He was proving to go against everything he had said before her pregnancy.

A few days after the discussion, the two broke up without any contact afterwards, leaving Gabriela to mentally prepare herself for the long road ahead.

With this new responsibility, Gabriela was crushed when she had to notify her dance coach and team that she could no longer participate in the G&D team because of medical reasons. She couldn't bring herself to tell her friends out of shame, even if the coach and many of her teachers already knew the real reason. It felt like a small part of the goals and dreams she was aspiring to achieve had been dangled further out of her grasp, and at times she resented herself for wanting to keep the child. Yet she couldn't bring herself to make any real decision against it, and once the signs became more obvious was when she took her leave from high school. The remainder of her junior year was spent from home and a hospital bed up until the birth of her beautiful Absol daughter, Liberty.

Completing graduation to get her GED was difficult, to say the least; with her mother infrequently at home and her father barely around, Gabriela had to mature even quicker than she would have liked. Booking babysitters and finding the same nannies her mother had found for her was necessary so that Gabriela could still attend her senior year. Whereas she was looking forward to her senior year in her freshman days, it looked quite lackluster to her now as she watched her dance team from the sidelines. Their after-school practices could no longer fit in with her new mom schedule.

With that, senior year passed her by, and Gabriela found herself opting out of college to care for the now-one-year-old Liberty.

Now with more time on her hands, Gabriela devoted the remainder of her life to her daughter; despite the way she came into this world, watching her grow was one of the most rewarding experiences to Gabriela—even more so than her graduation day. It was fascinating to see how a child developed into their own person, and she was thankful to have the help of her parents when they were around to provide such. During those days, Gabriela worked quite a few part-time jobs in order to make her own money to support herself and her daughter, especially so when Gabriela decided to move out of her parents' home and into her own apartment. The urge to dance never really left the Sentret, however, and often times she would dance around her house for fun; this became more of a fun bonding activity for the two as Liberty grew older. They danced with hula hoops, ribbons, props and costumes—whatever they could to make it more enjoyable. They would even attend dance sessions in their local studio, as well as mock-Contest debuts.

The years began climbing up and before Gabriela knew it, Liberty was reaching her teen years. She was at the age where she was slowly becoming more independent and would eventually consider college as well. Liberty encouraged her mother to continue trying to achieve what she wanted to be for years now that she didn't have to fret over a newborn child, yet the discussion always resulted in "I'm just too old for that now" from Gabriela's side. That was one of the few arguments mother and daughter got into, and it took a few days of cooling down before Liberty tried a calmer approach.

"You're just going to sit and let life pass you by? It's too short for that—I know you're bound to be big someday, just you wait. I want to say 'that's my mom'."

And with that, Gabriela decided to take her daughter's words to heart and began where she left off after graduating high school, starting with going back to college. With dance as her major focus, Gabriela decided to apply for the School of Arts at Mirage College, hoping that hope would be the key to her childhood dream.
